This lovely teenaged patient was very self-conscious about her crowded and crooked teeth. She rarely smiled, and hid her mouth with her hand often. Now, she can’t stop smiling! “What a difference!”

This patient used to have what is known as a ‘deep over-bite’, which is when the lower front teeth are completely hidden behind the upper front teeth, and the lower jaw is shifted further back and over closed. This condition can negatively impact the TMJ, chewing function, and of course, esthetics. Fortunately, the patient met Dr. Tarek, who treated the patient in a timely manner and now their smile is not only beautiful, but also healthy and functional too!

This young lady suffered from an open bite, where her front teeth didn’t touch at all. This is often caused by early oral habits like tongue thrusting or thumb sucking. It results in compromised chewing funtion, as well as an esthetic concern where the mouth appears open whenever the patient is smiling. Not being able to bite into foods like a sandwich, or an apple, was a constant and daily nuissance for this patient. With comprehensive orthodontic treatment provided by Dr. Tarek, all of these issues were solved, and the patient couldn’t be happier!

What age should my child have their first orthodontic evaluation?

We recommend an orthodontic check-up around age 7. At this age, we can spot and gently guide developing issues—like crowding, bite problems, or jaw growth—with Phase 1 Treatment if needed. This early, interceptive care (usually between ages 6–10) helps set the stage for a healthier smile and can even shorten or simplify future treatment.

Our Edmonton clinic is located at 4445 Calgary Trail, at the Terrace Office Tower across from the Popeye’s. We share a building with the Wyndham Hotel. Plenty of free parking available!
