Meet Dr. Tarek El-Bialy

Dr. Tarek El-Bialy is an orthodontic specialist and has been a practising orthodontist for almost 40 years. His passion is creating beautiful, natural smiles for patients of all ages. His patients describe him as compassionate, knowledgeable, and friendly with a great sense of humour.

Dr. Tarek has published several dozens of research articles and is the author of highly regarded textbooks such as Orthodontic Biomechanics: Treatment of Complex Cases Using Clear Aligner. He has been an active international speaker and has lectured in dozens of countries for many academic associations, as well as companies such as Align Technology (Invisalign).

He is an Associate Professor and lecturer at the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry. His main focus of research has been in the fields of bioengineering, biomechanics, bioacoustics, cell and tissue engineering, craniofacial anomalies, and clinical orthodontics.

His research has led to new, clinically proven treatment methods and devices to safely and significantly accelerate orthodontic tooth movements with less tooth resorption by combining low-intensity pulsed ultrasound with orthodontic treatment. These new developments have allowed many patients to achieve their orthodontic results safely, in less time.

Meet Dr. Osmar Barreto

Meet Dr. Osmar Barreto, Certified Specialist in Orthodontics, working out of our South Edmonton office. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, he served as both a dentist and orthodontist in the Brazilian military before coming to Canada. In 2011, he joined the University of Manitoba as a full-time faculty member in the Division of Orthodontics, where he taught for three years.

During his time in Canada, Dr. Barreto completed every level of orthodontic training and today holds memberships in the Alberta Dental Association and College, the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (Orthodontics and Dental Facial Orthopaedics), the Canadian Dental Association, and the American Association of Orthodontists. He remains active in research, with articles published in numerous peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Barreto and his family are thrilled to call Edmonton home, and he looks forward to bringing his skill and compassion to every smile at our South Edmonton office.
